Living Life as a Sneakerhead

Angelica R, Writer and sneaker aficionado

Today in our generation, shoe game is popular on the internet. I often look at people walking by and the first thing I would look at are their shoes.

Also, looking at shoes online has become a daily thing for me. I do not just look at shoes to buy them, I often look at them for fun during my free time.

Other times, whenever I have a tough time deciding which shoes match my outfit more, I have one shoe on one leg and a different type of shoe on the other. Then I would switch back and forth on my sides deciding which shoe looks better.

It is also not just about the looks. Yes, the shoes may look better with the outfit, but you often must think about the weather. Is it worth it to wear your most expensive pair of shoes in the rain? I personally could not.

Popular Sneakers

Kanye West, also known as Ye, is an American rapper, record producer, and well-known fashion designer. Het is the inventor of Yeezy Boost, along with Adidas.

Yeezy Boost 350 V2 is one of Kanye’s famous sneakers. Retail: $220. The original Yeezy Boost 350s retail for just $200. But resell is crazy and could go up to $1000+. Most people stay up late or wake up early for the new drop and try their best to get retail because who wants to pay $500+ for buying a resold pair?

A newly released drop on the 350 V2s is ‘Bone.’. It is a very minimalistic design with an upper Prime knit making it breathable with an ivory color to add onto the minimalistic look.

Travis Scott, also known as Young Thug, is another rapper and singer. He is well known for his sneaker collaboration with Jordans.

His most famous sneaker collab with Jordans are the Jordan 1s. Scott simply took the Jordan 1 design and turned it into his own by reversing the Nike logo. The Air Jordan 1 High retail is currently at $175. The Air Jordan 1 Lows retail for $150.

Just like the Yeezys, people throughout the entire world will try to get the drop, not just because of the shoes but because of the money. Resellers will buy sneakers and resell them for a much higher price. Travis Scott’s Jordan 1s could resell higher than $3,000 and people do buy them even at that price. But comparing the retail price to the reselling price, I would not buy resell.

A release that everyone is waiting on this year is the Jordan 1 Low ‘Reverse Mocha’. It’s just another version of the ‘Mocha’ AJ1 Low from 2019. The upper part of the shoe has a suede base with ivory leather overlays along with Travis’s signature reverse swoosh on the lateral side finishing it off with a neutral cream.

Shoe Superstitions

Something I have heard in some cultures is that you risk bad luck by wearing someone else’s shoes.

But you could also inherit good luck by “walking a mile” in a successful person’s shoes.

Are shoes good luck? In the 18th and 19th centuries people put their shoes inside the walls of their home to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.

Apparently placing shoes on a table can negatively impact future prosperity or bring bad luck.
