Lady Panthers bounce back with a win

After a tough 0-3 start to the season, the Stewart girls varsity basketball team got their first win this week over East Side rivals First Creek.

The Panthers pulled off the 26-16 win Tuesday over the Eagles in the Stewart gym.

The victory was a big relief after three lopsided losses.

Players were incredibly happy about winning.

“I was going to cry, we weren’t expecting this,” said 8th grader Jaulina. “We were doubting ourselves, thought we weren’t going to win because we lost all the other games.

“But I got excited, and my teammates got excited, and we took our excitement to the court, and we won! We didn’t overthink it like we normally do.”

“It was crazy,” Jaulina said.

Coach Scott had a lot of positive things to say about his team, especially their determination and their perseverance.

Coach said his team is working to overcome their inexperience, because they have not played together or played much separately.

He said the players are hard-working and the team tries a lot in practice and games. They give 100 percent effort all the time, coach said.
